    Denial

In southeastern Australia, the beautiful Australian Alps, often called "The Snowy Mountains," showcase an alpine and subalpine environment. This delicate region is home to a rich variety of plants and animals and is recognised by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve.

In 2007, the Australian government engaged Professor Ross Garnaut to evaluate the effects of climate change. The review cautioned about extreme weather events, such as rising temperatures, drought conditions, severe bushfires, reduction of snow cover, loss of biodiversity, and the potential extinction of species.

It is well documented that, over time, humanity has established itself as the dominant species on Earth through innovation and technology. Nonetheless, one might argue that humanity's story should embody a tradition of respect for the environment and sustainability.

Surely, each of us has a responsibility to promote respect for one another and for other species, rather than being motivated by dominance, greed, or the “It doesn’t affect me” attitude.

Although evidence for climate change grows, some say humanity remains in denial with only minor behavioural changes, especially towards achieving net-zero emissions to fight climate change.

Failure to act could cause the loss of ecosystems like the Australian Alps. To ensure everyone, including the planet, survives, we need to come together and foster respect and change for a sustainable future.
